Coat and colors

Family fit

Check both parent breeds carefully for energy, size, barking, and child handling fit.

Genetics vary

Mixed-breed puppies are not predictable copies of either parent. Littermates can differ in size, coat, color, structure, and temperament, so treat this calculator as an educational preview.

How this mixed-breed preview works

The calculator combines parent-breed facts from our breed database: size, height, weight, coat type, coat colors, shedding, grooming, trainability, and family-fit flags. It gives a planning envelope so you know which questions to ask about the actual parents and puppy.

It does not claim that a puppy will split both parents evenly. Mixed-breed inheritance is variable, so one puppy may look like a clear blend while a littermate strongly favors one parent.

Frequently asked questions

Can a dog breed mix calculator predict exactly what puppies will look like?
No. Mixed-breed puppies can vary widely, even within the same litter. This calculator uses parent-breed traits to explain possible size, coat, shedding, and temperament patterns, not to guarantee an exact look.
Why do mixed-breed puppies from the same parents look different?
Each puppy inherits a different combination of traits. One puppy may favor the first parent, another may favor the second parent, and another may land between them in size, coat, color, and structure.
Does this calculator generate a custom puppy image?
Not in the MVP. It shows parent-breed reference images and, when available, an illustrative image from a published mixed-breed guide. Custom real-time image generation is a future feature.
What should I check before choosing a mixed-breed puppy?
Meet the actual parents when possible, ask about health testing, compare both parent breeds, and plan for the higher-maintenance side of size, exercise, shedding, and grooming.
